Cloudscape IV - Advances in Interoperability and Cloud Computing Standards

Cloudscape IV focuses strongly on interoperability and portability issues with the involvement of key Standard Development Organizations as part of a call for action to strengthen international cooperation to address global challenges. Cloudscape IV also shines the spotlight on the reusable assets of European Distributed Computing Infrastructures and the need to foster synergies beyond the typical research infrastructure landscape. The event also sees the launch of the SIENA European Roadmap on Grid and Cloud Standards for e-Science and Beyond.
The two-day agenda also features a keynote from Mario Campolargo, Director DG INFSO Emerging Technologies and Infrastructures, European Commission, insights from all major stakeholders, including eResearch, industry and eGovernment communities and interactive roundtable debates on the burning issues with valuable networking opportunities, making Cloudscape IV a key event on the cloud computing calendar.
Atos leads the OPTIMIS project for the optimisation of services in Cloud

The project, promoted by the European Commission, is committed to the 'hybrid cloud' with an investment of 10.5 million euros over three years.
The objective is to optimise the life cycle of the services offered by a Cloud, covering everything from the development of the services to their deployment and operation, and to create a full toolkit which will be available to companies and organisations.

Cloud4SOA is organizing a workshop for this year's CloudCom (http://2011.cloudcom.org/), taking place in Athens this November 29th to December 1st!
Titled "Market Implementation of Cloud Interoperability and Portability Research in IaaS and PaaS", the workshop aims to examine today's interoperability and portability research efforts in the infrastructure and platform layers, and analyze the feasibility of their implementation into market viable solutions. The cloud industry is going at full speed, so let's see how these innovative ideas targeted at one of cloud computing's larger barriers matches up to the market's expectations.
We've set up a page on our website for the workshop that will be updated regularly as we approach the event's dates this fall. For the meantime, we've published our workshop Call for Papers in conjunction with CloudCom, and look forward to your participation!

Internet of Services: FP7 Projects Collaboration meeting
(28-29 September 2011 - Brussels)
All representatives of FP7 Call 1 and Call 5 projects in the area of Software & Services are invited to participate. Also welcome are representatives from other research projects notably from NESSI or the Future Internet Assembly who wish to collaborate with the Software & Services projects.
The meeting has the following objectives: To consolidate the collaboration activities among the projects in order to build an even stronger community; to give the opportunity to understand key results of the projects/collaboration working groups in order to facilitate reuse of these results and to better exploit their results by finding synergies with the other projects; and to achieve a better understanding of the results of the FP7 projects in the “Internet of Services” area. As well, in view of the next "Horizon 2020" Framework Programme for research, which will start in 2014, this meeting has also the objective to collect ideas and understand the needs of the "Software and Services" research community, in order to advice the European Commission in the drafting of "Horizon 2020".

SESERV Workshop: Building the Future Internet: The Social Nature of Technical Choices

A workshop and seminar entitled "Building the Future Internet: The Social Nature of Technical Choices". During this workshop and seminar, which will be held on June 28 from 10:00 to 16:00, experts in FI technology will be engaging with researchers such as social scientists and economists, with policy experts, and with other stakeholders to discuss how the latest technology developments are encountering socio-economic realities. Particular attention will be given to the methods and approaches that facilitate the creation of multidisciplinary networks of collaboration and knowledge exchange. The specific topics will be announced soon, and will be based on the results of the SESERV survey currently being circulated to FI projects about socio-economic issues relevant to the realities on-the-ground in the FI community.

Future Internet Conference Week

BonFIRE Open-Call for Experiments on multi-site Cloud facility
The BonFIRE project is offering up to 200K funding contribution (total 1,34 M Euro) for innovative service and network experiments that use the BonFIRE facility. The aim is to stimulate demand and establish a methodology of experimentally driven research. The funding will be allocated through a series of open calls. The first open call is NOW OPEN and will close on 9 March 2011, targeting the Internet of Services and Future Networks research communities.
Why not start considering how BonFIRE can support your RTD plans today? Do you have good research results but need to consider wider performance, scalability and security characteristics to achieve exploitation potential? NEXOF-RA aims to build the Reference Architecture for the NESSI Open Service Framework (NEXOF) leveraging research in the area of service-based systems, and to consolidate and trigger innovation in service-oriented economies. In this context, the project has defined the NEXOF Roadmap in order to identify the major research topics in relation to NEXOF evolution. In order to achieve a broad consensus the project invites not only the Services Research Community, but also all interested individuals and organizations to participate in this public consultation.
