The Grid Portals technical area of the BEinGRID project is concerned with offering scalable solutions that enable the provision of intuitive and vendor neutral interfaces for managing user communities, complex processes and data in Service Oriented Infrastructures. The technological innovations that derived from this area all aim at creating a less complicated working environment for end users and administrators.

This paper is mainly devoted to present a set of business scenarios where the capabilities and software components developed by the BEinGRID Portals area are can be used.

The four scenarios presented in the paper clearly show how the results of this area allow:

  • administration of distributed service oriented environments,
  • submission and management of computationally intensive tasks,
  • collaboration between users of different roles,
  • a combination of the above (collaborative engineering)

The paper also shows how the results of the Portals area can be combined with the ones of the License Management area. This integration has taken place within the BEinGRID project resulting in enhancements in the components of both the LM and Portals areas. The combination of Job Submission Monitoring and Control  and LM-Job Description and Submission, allows the usage of application licenses through Grid portal environments.

For more information on the four scenarios, we invite you to read the full report.

It is worth mentioning that the results of the Portals area have been integrated into a comprehensive development framework for Grid Portals: the Vine Toolkit. Within the framework of the Vine Toolkit, the developed components can be used separately or interoperate in a seamless manner.
